Here, you will find aviation stories that were passed down to me, and others of things that happened to me. Which is which, is it tall or is it true? As with most things in life, it’s often a mix of both; though some of the tales are indeed pure fiction. The tales will have you believing in Superman, in form of an airplane that can cut through radio towers and fly on like nothing happened, that physics can be suspended, that the cherry pie is the best choice always, and that that I only have three toes on one foot. The poetry will expose the inner voice that speaks to us sometimes when we day dream about our airplanes. Or describe the recurring nightmares that we have when we are so eaten up by our work, and aircraft, that our REM sleep is polluted with it. How we love to hate them, and hate to love them, because she is in the end, an aluminum bitch. Also includes the acclaimed novelette, Kisses, Blood, Kerosene, & Silk.
Had somehow crossed paths with the author on Google Plus back while that was still a thing, enjoyed his posts and added book to wish list here on Amazon; finally got around to buying it. Arrived in mail today and went with me to laundromat. Have read several scattered chapters of it. Quite good. Author's writing style isn't what I would call textbook conventional and that's a good thing, the way he writes works for me and creates vivid visual and emotional images of the places and happenings.I am not a pilot or mechanic but my Dad and Grandad were pilots for a time and maybe that helps me "get it" a little more deeply than would the average consumer. But then maybe it doesn't. Either case, the book works and I'm taking it to show off at our local creative writers group meeting this coming weekend. Think I'll read the 3 page "Tortoise Walk" to them.(is good to be meeting again, have missed that, or at least I've missed the caffeine and sugar provided by the locally owned bake shop we haunt) (ya know, that brings up a question, is having caffeine and sugar redundant, a duplication of effort/effect?)
