I gave this product five stars for several reasons, and only one reason gave me pause, but I still ended up at 5.The good stuff first: >> I had read that there were multiple small magnets spaced out across the bar. This isn't true. Perhaps newer models have corrected this deficiency, but the one I have has solid magnetic strips (one upper, one lower) across the whole front. It holds all my knives very solidly. What else can you ask from a knife holder!ONE THING I HAVE NOTICED, is that it holds Carbon Steel blades much more securely than Stainless Steel (which ISN'T to say that it doesn't also hold the SS blades with sufficient snugness). This is because of a lower concentration of magnetic elements, forged out of Stainless, but still present in Carbon. That's fine by me. I vastly prefer my Carbon Steel knives, ESPECIALLY for kitchen usage. The one thing that gave me pause was the fact that -as other reviewers noticed- there are NO INCLUDED INSTRUCTIONS. In a hope that I can correct a manufacturer's deficiency of a product to which I have attributed a 5-Star Rating, I have decided to include very simple installation instructions. Please continue below.>>>>Step 1: >> Scribe a line 18" (the length of this product) being certain to level with a bubble level.>>Step 2: >> Install screws according to where the finish-installed product will be. You can discover this by making sure the plastic collars are slid all the way in on both ends, and then measuring from one hole to the other. That's your measurement. DO NOT screw the screw all the way into the wall. You're going to leave it out about 1/8 of an inch to leave room for the collar to sit on it.>>Step 3: >> Slide one of the Plastic Collars onto the adjoining screw. (The left end-collar on the left-side screw).>>Step 4: >> Slide the Magnetic Strip onto the Plastic Collar and hold it there with your hand. (Note* It should sit almost exactly against the opposite side screw.>>Step 5: >> Slide the Right Sided Plastic Collar in behind the Right-Sided screw and press into the slot at the Right end of the Magnet Strip.*Note For a little added security, I pressed a little metal pin in against the Right-Sided cap, which will have to be removed if I ever take it down. Completely unnecessary, but it added a little security that made my wife feel better. ;-)Thanks for reading! Search inside the box, search the text on the box, search the parts, search inside the bar. Yup, no directions. It only took a minute to figure out how it went up but I admit I was a bit surprised at no directions whatsoever. The only real problem that I had with the installation are the screws. Do yourself a favor and use different screws. A few other reviewers had noted that the screws are of cheap quality. Wish to heaven I'd paid more attention to that because as I was finishing up the first screw I thought one or two more turns and done... *PLINK*. "PLINK" being the sound that the top of the screw made as it flew off and popped against a nearby wall. Now how in heaven you get a screw with no top out of good sturdy wood I have yet to figure out. Thirty+ minutes of using up all of the Googled advice I could get my hands on and that screw didn't budge an inch
