Does it’s job. The screws are a little small compared to regular bike stem. Have to buy them separately. No sure if I can trust the ones that came with it.Got this for my Trek Fuel mountain bike. Replaced an 80mm stock stem. Overall, it seems excellent. The 40mm came in at 70 grams exactly. Despite the light weight, I hit an intermediate level trail with numerous jumps, including one at almost 3 feet. It felt solid and I didn't notice any flex, and I love the direct feel of the short length. The only complaint I have, as another review mentioned, it has T20, not T25 bolts. I bent the threads of one of my T20 heads trying to get it tight enough to where I felt comfortable my bars would be solid on a decent trail. I plan to get one in a longer length for the road bike as well. Its a good stem, but it uses T20 torx bolts, which are smaller than the standard T25 rotor bolt size that most bike tools have. So if you want to make adjustments on the trail, you probably have to bring a separate tool.Holds stem and handlebars with no extras. What else do you want?80mm - came in at just under 80mm and the 90mm came in at 95mm. Very light weight.90 - 96g80 - 78gWould be 5 starts if lengths were consistentSuper lightweight. Exactly what I was looking for. Happy with my purchase. Bought the 80mm not 40mmWould have been a 5 star product, however the MFR website states that this stem uses T25 bolts, however the one I got has t20s.The issue with this is cycling tools almost always have a t25 bit, and almost never have a t20.I bought the Gray Ultralight 110mm stem. This is not my first Gary product - I’ve also bought their ultralight quick release skewers many years ago and it worked pretty well when I had it. The weight of the 110mm stem is super IMPRESSIVE, at only 93.7 grams! This is not far off from the “extreme weight weenie” parts such as MCFK (88g) and Extralite (83g), but at 1/10 the price! The Uno stem, which is well known for its price-to-weight ratio weighs 101g at 110mm with titanium bolts and costs 3 times as much as Gray. I would say if you care just about weight and budget, nothing can compete with this, not even remotely. The length of my stem is also exactly as specified, measured at 110mm center to center. It does come with the T20 screws which is rather uncommon for standard bike parts, but it’s really not a rare choice for ultralight components. The reason why Gray and several other ultralight stems use T20 is because the bolts they use are M4 instead of the standard M5. You just cannot fit a 4mm hex head in the bolt, and 3mm hex would be too weak to handle the tightening torques. That brings up the first drawback of the Gray stem. M4 is not as robust as M5 and many people feel uncomfortable about it. I would recommend you stay away from this and any ultralight stems for that matter if you do many unpaved rides. I don’t think there will be much trouble for road cycling or even light gravel, but it doesn’t seem to be a wise idea to save a few grams on the stem when you roll through rocky terrains.Another issue I noticed immediately after I mount the stem is its non-negligible lateral flex (left and right). I didn’t notice this at all for my old “relatively light” stem, but on the Gray stem the issue is so obvious. Some moderate horizontal force will make it flex noticeably. I haven’t ridden it on the road, but I’m sure it won’t give me a lot of confidence when I make maneuvers at a high speed (like riding downhill). I don’t mean it will crack or get loose necessarily, but the flex will definitely make the steering direction quite unpredictable. However, this is not the problem for Gary alone. I’ve seen the very same complaint on Enve and Extralite stems, so it’s another compromise that comes inevitably with weight cutting.Overall, great stem for budget-conscious weight weenies out there. I’ll probably make an update after I ride it on the road. Don’t buy it if you want a stem that is easy to live with and offers the best performance. Don’t buy it if you don’t understand anything I talked about and just want a stem. Will buy again next order.
